After a rain deluge delay, the start of the Gene Wells Wooden Boat Regatta got off to a dry and windy start at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 15th. Seven of the nine boats designed and built on Kauai by Gene Wells participated in this special event to honor this man and his beautiful boats. A large crowd of spectators joined the NYC Race committee at the Nawiliwili Jetty to watch the two separate races that were held. Three generations of the Wells family were on two of the race boats. An 'open house' viewing of the boats followed the races at the Nawiliwili Small Boat Harbor and the event was then celebrated at a party at the new NYC clubhouse, the first event to be held there. A special trophy was presented to Gene Wells and each of the boats that participated received a trophy to commemorate the day. Videographers Katie Beer and Charter NYC Member Teri Tico were on hand throughout the day to document the activities. Look for it soon on Hoike. |
