SPRITE ISLAND YACHT CLUB, Long Island Sound, CT

We met Adriana & Dave the day of the Kauai Channel Race arrival party. They were honeymooning on Kauai and stopped in for a burgee exchange and stayed for the party. Fleet Captain Bill Peterson did the honors. SIYC is a small private club on one of the most picturesque islands. It is just off the Westport Norwalk shore. SOUTHERN YACHT CLUB, New Orleans, LA

Jack Hulse and wife Gwen dropped in at the jetty to view the first race of the Carmelita Miranda Memorial series and then joined us at the clubhouse for dinner and drinks before heading to the airport to fly home. Commodore Doug Tiffany does the honors in this photo. The SYC was established in 1949 for the advancement of the science of sailing and yachting, and for the encouragement of athletic competition and social interaction amongst its members. After racing on a Lotus 9.2 with Matt Algae, Commodore Doug & Bonnie Tiffany exchanged burgees with MBBC Commodore Wayne Wilton and visited with former NYC member and Prindle racer Graham Bambery. Opua Cruising Club, Bay of islands, nz  

Commodore Doug & Bonnie Tiffany dined with Webb Chiles at this club. Webb is on his 6th circumnavigation, this time in a Moore 24. They left him with an NYC burgee and told him to fly it on his journey and bring it back safely. OCC is a fun & friendly yacht club on Opua waterfront in the Bay of Islands. Year-round racing, cruising, youth sailing & social events. Located in the beautiful Bay of Islands, Opua Cruising Club is a fun and family-friendly yacht club where all are welcome. 3/2015


WINDSOR YACHT CLUB, Ontario, Canada

Greg & Helen Burke joined NYC for our Opening Day Races and party after on Valentine's Day and exchanged club burgees with NYC Commodore Doug Tiffany. The WYC was established in 1937 and was completely renovated in the early 1999. The Club is located at the mouth of the Detroit River. Founded in 1956, the Indianapolis Yacht Club on Geist Lake, is a private boating and social club offering boating, recreational, social and family and private events, heated swimming pool, food and drinks and fun and fellowship for its members and their guests. RICHMOND YACHT CLUB, Point Richmond, CA  

In 1932 a group of Richmond locals joined forces to form the Richmond Yacht Club. United by a common desire to promote affordable sailing, they built their own boats, sewed their own sails, and constructed their own club house. "We created our Sailing Club so that our Sailing School students can have access to many types of boats as they work on their American Sailing Association courses. Tom and Barb Agerter raced the double handed Pacific Cup race from San Francisco to Kaneohe in their Olson 30 "Weatherly." Upon arrival in Oahu they sold her to our Fleet Captain Carl Andersson. NYC Commodore Jim Saylor and MKYC Commodore William DeRego exchange burgees. Ballena Bay Yacht Club - Alameda, California

This exchange was especially fun for the NYC old-timers who were here in the early 80s when Ballena Bay YC and Nawiliwili YC were the first sponsors of the Pacific Cup Yacht Race that will finish in Kaneohe this month. Phil Tanner is a member of Nawiliwili Yacht Club and a former member and officer of YBYC. Sharon met with CYPC members Dale and Rod Tosetti visiting in Poipu. Rod arranged to have his club's burgee mailed to him so we could do an exchange. NYC member Craig Threshie, past mayor and council member of Truckee, stands in for his friend Dennis Austin who recently visited Kauai - without a burgee. Ansavari Yacht Club, Vanuatu, Tonga

Former NYC Member Steve Gates has found a lovely home for our NYC burgee. It is now hanging at the Ansavari Yacht Club in the northern Vanuatu chain on the Island of Maewo. Steve left Tonga and sailed to Fiji on his trimaran ManuOku and then to Vanuatu and on up the chain to Maewo where he met Chief Nelson at the Ansavari YC where they hung our NYC burgee.


Lake Lanier Sailing Club, Flowery Branch, GA
Vice Commodore Jim Saylor exchanges burgees with the LAKE LANIER SAILING CLUB represented by Wayne Myers. The LLSC is located in Flowery Branch, Georgia. Wayne and his wife came for a visit and went for a sail with the Fast Company crew. See their lovely club

Former NYC member Gary Maley dropped by the NYC jetty one evening to watch the races and brought with him a bag full of fun pendants that he inherited from deceased Staff Commodore Allen Chatham. These are the kind of flags that we will want to run up the flag pole depending on the circumstances. They are ALL fun, fun, fun.  Thank you, Gary.

Chula Vista Yacht Club, Chula Vista, CA

Ed Brunjes and his wife Lily stopped by NYC after Ed completed his voyage from Chula Vista to Hawaii on his 32' Islander Sea Lily. His plan was to sail into Nawiliwili but stuff broke and he made Honolulu instead and flew to Kauai. The original photo was the victim of a camera malfunction so Staff Commodore Woodie Cole did the NYC honors and Ed mailed a photo from CVYC when he returned home (by plane). Jackson Yacht Club's Bishop Blackwell and NYC's Treasurer Dick Olsen exchanged burgees at the NYC clubhouse recently. "Overlooking the Ross Barnett Reservoir in Ringland, MS, JYC is a family club on the water. Primarily known for sailing, JYC also offers a variety of activities such as dining, swimming, adult and youth social events. JYC is a special place for everyone who wants to be on the water". Juanita had recently met NYC member Will Ryan who was visiting family in Annapolis and celebrated his birthday at EYC. Will is the bar manager for the Lahaina YC as many of our members know. It's a small, small world folks.

was represented by Van & Cheryl Jarvis for a burgee exchange with the Nawiliwili Yacht Club. Rear Commodore Jim Saylor did the honors. Van & Cheryl enjoy their power boat MAHALO on the West Coast and are the daughter and son-in-law of NYC members Doug & Sharon Gibson who were present for the exchange. Riverview Yacht Club, Toledo, Ohio

Tricia Mattson was proud to tell us that she was only the eighth woman ever allowed membership in their club and was happy to make this burgee exchange with NYC. Vice Commodore Terry Wells did the honors. Tricia and friends Kevin, Fred and Candy Powell partied with us at NYC after the first race of the Wahine Series. The Riverview YC WEBSITE is a lot of fun. Tahiti Yacht Club Burgee is in the house!

Commodore Bruce Heckman did the honors and made this exchange with NYC member Albert Smith who has just relocated from Maui to Kauai. Albert wants to complete this exchange by personally delivering our NYC burgee to the Tahiti Yacht Club. Wouldn't that be NICE? We couldn't find a website but The Blue Water Rally folks had some very nice things to say about the Tahiti Yacht Club and there are some lovely photos as well.


Saltaire Yacht Club, Fire Island, NY

NYC Burgee lives on Fire Island, New York at the SALTAIRE YACHT CLUB thanks to the efforts of Peter Patterson. It was kind of a mystery exchange done by someone ??? at NYC who was working at the clubhouse. We didn't get a picture of the actual exchange so Peter was kind enough to send this picture and Sharon filled in the missing pieces (click on the picture to see what we mean). Elba-Mar Boat Club , Grosse Ile, Michigan

No photo was taken of this exchange so they sent us this picture of their Commodore Dave Sampson with Rocco Gambino and John Gambino, the perpetrators of the exchange, receiving the NYC burgee. These lovely folks were visiting with friends who live in Kapaa over the New Year and connected with Sharon for the exchange. They were hoping to go sailing, but settled for a visit and a beer. Lake Yosemite Sailing Association, CA

NYC Lifetime Member George Deane brings us a burgee from his "other" club. George and his wife JoAnne live in Emeryville, CA and wanted to teach their grandkids how to sail. They bought a 22' sailboat and joined the Lake Yosemite Sailing Association so on his recent visit we did a burgee exchange. Staff Commodore Dick Olsen did the burgee exchange honors with Rich Wideman from the SFYC. Rich and his wife Shawn were visiting Nawiliwili aboard a cruise ship and met us at the clubhouse shortly before they were ready to set sail for Oahu. The San Francisco Yacht Club in tranquil Belvedere Cove is the oldest Yacht Club West of the Mississippi in North America.   Visit their website here

Commodore Bruce Makes Exchange . . .  We were most happy to meet and exchange burgees with Paul Froeschner and his wife Karen from the Aransas Pass Yacht Club on the Gulf Coast in Texas. Commodore Bruce does the honors . . . Roly Hurley and Karren Bowen arrived for their Kauai visit just the night before our return race from Hanalei to Nawiliwili. They caught a crew spot on Speedy and joined us at the clubhouse after the race to enjoy a cold brew and make a burgee exchange with the Cobourg Yacht Club in Canada. It took some doing, but we finally managed to hook up with Vice Commodore Michael Raider from the Ventura Yacht Club in California for an overdue burgee exchange. Kincardine Yacht Club, Ontario, Canada

Staff Commodore Dick Olsen exchanges burgees with the Kincardine Yacht Club. Malcolm Young does the honors for the KYC whose website is www.kyc.ca.  Dick and Malcolm worked together at the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, Austria.
